Finally the ‘he got himself an Audi’ makes the assumption he bought a brand new one. I wonder if this guy actually bought a beat up 20 year old A3 just to get him around because where he is forced to live there is no public transport. This anecdote smells of the cat story told by Theresa May imho.

@adambienkov.bsky.social @mrjamesob.bsky.social the problem with this complaint by the government is asylum seekers are not allowed to to rent privately or work so why is it a problem if a family member helps him from being destitute.

I remember John Moore. Thatcher gave him a job and he was found to be totally incompetent. Most commentators at the time considered him to have been a weak politician who had been promoted beyond his ability. One colleague compared him to 'a frightened rabbit mesmerised by oncoming headlights'.

Just got back from a week in Croatia 🇭🇷 and the difference from 8 years ago when we last went is striking. Fewer damaged and abandoned buildings far better infrastructure. Nice new clean motorways. Croatia is an excellent example of the success of being an EU member
