Beautful and so heart-breaking, as dementia always is. The spooling reel is a perfect metaphor. Thank you for sharing something so personal. 🙏

What a lovely puppy-inspired poem! Love the contrast between the in-the-now of the puppy world and the hideousness that is Trump. Oh, and I very much identify with 'the next blest nap'. Also, your puppy is the cutest puppy ever! 😀✨

It may we quick but it's very lovely Merril! Lots of beautiful images and I particularly love the power you give the 'here, not here' line with the use of white space. ✨

Love this, especially 'the sweet taste of rust'! It sort of reminds of that recent film Mickey 17.... and had to look up 'nurdles'. 😂✨

Yes. I'm quoting more or less exactly the description of a young Guinean who lived with us for a few years. He told me the bodies were people who died on the back of the pick-up and who would just get shoved off and left in the sand...

Wonderful Paul, so enjoyable to read, such a lovely rhythm to it, and the last line lands so well! ✨

Love the details you've chosen to show up the insanity of forging ahead with consumer society in the face of the climate crisis, trees and cable covers (had to look them up - bloody hell!). ✨

A great take-down of the voracious capitalism we're living in - and that last line, fiercely sad! ✨

Congrats Matt, and what a story! So many layers to it, and so somehow disturbing! I want to go back and read a few more times - excellent! 🎉

It is straining at the bit! And I'm hoping for a continual upward trajectory- longlisted the first year, shortlisted the second so logically... 😆😆😁

Exactly - just the right size. Don't want to start shoehorning...😆 Hope you're looking forward to it? 😘

It's hard to pick a favourite from among the glittering array of your stories that I know and love, but possibly this one would be it! 🎆💜🎉

Excellent! I've got one down to 99 words and now worrying what I can with that one extra word...😆
