I understand why faculty in Texas are unwilling to risk trying to exercise wildcat labor power in the face of an anti-labor state. In Illinois faculty have lots of power to use if they’re willing to be brave. Students will, I expect, stand with you. But you are going to have to be the leaders.

Mom's (retired) expertise is in CBRNE defense and mitigation, so a better-than-average understanding of nutrition and metabolism is part of her knowledge base, even if she is more of an expert on site decontamination after an incident and zoonotic diseases.

My mom has a working theory that a combination of B12 and folate deficiency can impact hair color. (She is in her late 70's and has still has very brown hair.) In the past 20 years, folic acid supplementation in food increased dramatically. Better nutrition, more color.

In a community that survives on seasonal work (Summer and Winter), Stick Season and Mud Season are pretty rough and to pull off a feast can be hard. The squash may have been in response to someone who posted that their squash had spoiled. BUT, dish soap, laundry soap - YES. People need both!
