apcaccess prints the UPS stats. Notably, it has a STATUS property that will be ONLINE or ONBATT (or others that I hopefully won't run into). I wrote a wrapper script that checks for that:

I bought a waffle maker at a thrift store so I could use up some pancake mix.
I tried using it for the first time yesterday, never having made waffles before. I thought you could use the pancake batter as-is, but no, it turns out you need to add oil to thicken it for waffles.
