"I neglected to introduce myself when last we met," he said, bringing his hand up and offering it to her in a formal greeting. "Zenos." By the Twelve, his hand was massive. Lucca took his hand and shook it, narrowly resisting the urge to gawk at the size of it. Instead, she nodded at him. "And I am Lucca. It is nice to meet you, Zenos." His hand was unpleasantly cold, and the handshake itself was lasting a tad too long for her comfort. She tugged her hand out of his enveloping grip and cleared her throat. "So you own the hat shop now, is that right?" He let his arm fall back to his side. "I reside there, yes." "I see." For several moments, they looked at each other expectantly. Just what was he trying to accomplish with this conversation? She couldn't read him. If he were bored with her, he surely would have left by now-but here he was, still looking down at her and anticipating some sort of remark. At a complete loss, Lucca plastered on a cheerful smile and asked, "What do you do around town?" "I am a hunter," he said simply, causing her to blink in surprise. With the scythe on his back, she had figured him to be a farmer or a botanist, though she supposed it wasn't unheard of for people to use scythes as weapons in combat. "Though, I am typically more active at night." "Oh!" At last, something to discuss. "Your usual quarry is nocturnal, then?" She smiled in a genial fashion in an attempt to coax him into returning it. He did not. No, he was staring at her again, though there was now a hint of something in his eyes that unnerved her even more than the first time they met. She was unsure of what it was exactly, but it made her fingers twitch as she instinctively wanted to reach for the staff she kept strapped to her back. His eyes flicked to her hand, honing in on the slight movement, and it was at that moment that Lucca decided she needed to get away from this man, and quickly. "Well, I ought to get going, now. May you find success in your hunt, Zenos."

By the Fury, why wasn't she saying anything? Why wasn't he saying anything? Estinien stared blankly at the wall, desperately trying to think of a way to break the uncomfortable tension hanging around them. He cleared his throat and said the first thing that popped into his head. "Did Aymeric ever tell you the story of when we tried to ride a wild griffin?" She stared at him, her eyes wide. He was unsure whether her apparent surprise was from the subject matter or the fact that he was telling her a story in the first place. Surely the idea of him sharing a personal anecdote was not that shocking. "No, he did not. Why would you do that?" He huffed in amusement as he recalled the memory. "We were far more bold and reckless back then. You know," he gestured vaguely, "Stupid." Lucca giggled, making Estinien pause in surprise. It was a light, airy noise that he was unused to hearing from her. Or rather, he was unused to being the one causing it. He wondered if he could make it happen again. Ser Aymeric de Borel was no stranger to staying up into the wee hours of the night. Regrettably, his dual responsibilities as Lord Speaker and Lord Commander came with a daily stream of forms and proposals that required his attention, and he simply did not have enough time to do it all while the sun was above the horizon. Most nights he brought his unfinished work back to the manor, where he took his supper and worked until the candles burned low. It was a lifestyle he had resigned himself to, all for the betterment of Ishgard. However, after a particularly thorough scolding from one of his chirurgeons, then his steward, then Lucia, then, of all people, the Warrior of Light... Aymeric reluctantly admitted to himself that his sleeping habits should, perhaps, take higher priority in his life. Over the course of the past moon, he developed a routine. He would lock any unfinished paperwork away in his office. Then, he would take a steaming cup of herbal tea, a comforting book, and a soothing stick of incense to his chambers. Finally, once he felt sufficiently relaxed, he would attempt to sleep. It took several days of little luck and much frustration, but his calculated efforts eventually started to be met with some success. So when this hard-earned slumber was disturbed by a sharp knock at his window one night, Aymeric was a great deal less than pleased. Something was different. Something had changed. Alisaie narrowed her eyes as her group of allies, both old and new, split off and began separate conversations throughout the station of Tertium. Her brother was entirely oblivious, apparently, though that was hardly surprising. What was surprising was that everyone seemed to be unaware of what was becoming increasingly clear to her. There was something going on between the Warrior of Light and the former Azure Dragoon. She was unsure of what exactly that 'something' entailed, but she was rather confident in her assessment of their relationship prior to this. Cordial and supportive. Now, they were far more familiar with each other-comfortable, even. Each one stealing glances whenever the other wasn't looking. Such as right this moment, as Lucca peered at Estinien from across the station. The expression on her face was, of all things... fond. Alisaie's nose scrunched up in distaste. Estinien? Really? She followed Lucca's gaze over to where he stood, arms crossed, chatting with Alphinaud. She snorted. What was it that everyone saw in that man? Though she would never say it aloud, she did concede that he was not a complete blundering oaf, contrary to her first impression of him. But still— Estinien? He shifted in his seat to rest his elbow on the arm of the throne. What was she doing at this moment? His eyes narrowed. More than likely, she was giving some undeserving soul her precious time and attention. Assisting them with some manner of menial task, and then being showered with praise. Oh, how people across the star loved her. They gave naught but adoration for their mighty champion and protector-and thus, revealed themselves as the fools they were. All of them remained blissfully unaware that they were being deceived. She was a beast. His beautiful beast. Whenever the call of battle rang out, she simply answered it. Whether it be monster, primal, or man, it was her purpose to strike down her adversary where they stood. Then, once bored of toying with her prey, she began the search anew for stronger, more worthy opponents. Zenos leaned his face against his hand in contemplation. Perhaps she was spending her time sharpening her skills, then. Preparing for her next battle. The thought sent a jolt of delight through him. Naught would please him more than to provide it for her. For what other reason would he be denied his rightful death? With another clash, one even grander than their last, he would find true fulfillment.

THUD! Ah, so that was where Estinien had gone. Lucca smiled fondly as she continued pouring her tea, but then halted in sudden realization. If he was on the roof, then where was their son who was accompanying- Thud! Without a word, Lucca placed the kettle back on the stove, closed her eyes, and released a long, deep, weary sigh.

Not gonna lie, I thought about this for most of my work shift today

The slide ends up pushing against Emet-Selch’s face as he stares deadpan at the viewer. Emet-Selch picks the self-satisfied-looking Exarch up by the hood, turns, and throws him against something with a loud CRASH.

"I grow weary of this," Thancred whispered to the man next to him. "Must I remind thee that 'twas thou who most generously agreed to watch over young master Nino this evening?" Thancred sighed and glanced over to the boy seated at the other side of the table, kicking his legs and looking with wide, curious eyes around the Rising Stones. While, yes, he had agreed to it, this certainly hadn't been his idea—and just how Urianger had managed to persuade the Warrior of Light into allowing the two of them to babysit her child, he would never know. Thancred was silently cursing the 'amiable gesture' that would 'forge deeper bonds betwixt the Scions' when Urianger nudged him in the arm. "Now, what dost thou spy with thy little eye?"

"You're injured," Estinien said as he turned to the Warrior of Light abruptly, halting their ascent through the Aery. For some reason, she had been hiding it— and very poorly, at that. He reached over to the injured arm to inspect it, but his hand had barely grazed her skin before she stepped deftly out of reach. "I am a competent healer," she replied with a sniff and a lift of her chin, "I will be fine." Estinien stared at her defiant eyes from beneath his helm for a moment, then wordlessly resumed leading their trek. In the end, it mattered not if Lucca liked him—only that Nidhogg was destroyed for good.

"Come now, you truly refuse to let me in?" Lucca stood silently with her back against the door, clenching her jaw as she ignored the shiver that slid down her frame at the man's words. "This area of the Shroud chills one to the bone, my friend. I only wish to warm myself by your fire," continued the purring voice from the other side of the wood. Had Lucca had not been trembling with fear, she would be tempted to admire his persistence. "You may stand out there and freeze for all I care, vampire," she finally said, "I will never allow you to enter."
