B'alith squirms against the light touch and the brush is pulled away. A whine falls from his lips in response to the loss of sensation, withdrawn so abruptly it feels as if a thread has been snapped. He feels its absence keenly, despite how he knows its return will bring him no closer to relief. "Be still," Zhai'a murmurs. "If you move around overmuch, the paint will smudge, and I will have to begin again." B'alith's tail curls against the skins in annoyance, yet he obeys nonetheless. He knows all too well now that his husband is the sort of man who would rather make promises instead of threats.

For Lucca, it was when Estinien held out the map to Alzadaal’s Legacy and she looked up at him like “🥺💕”

For Pesmerga, I was lamenting that I couldn’t find a ship for him because the characters I had in mind didn’t match his freak…and then Nero came swaggering into the Lotus Stand.

A chirurgeon would have to properly take care of Estinien, but for now, all Sirius wants is to ensure he’s safe. Alive. When his ears pick up on the sound of a shallow breath, there is no stopping a few tears from escaping him. “You have to live,” Sirius whispers and closes his eyes. “If not for me, then for Alphinaud. He will be heartbroken if he discovers you’re dead.” It does not take long for Aymeric and Lucia to find them amidst the rubble and collapsed stone. They call for medical assistance with haste, the lord commander taking Estinien in his arms. Aymeric does not depart without thanking the Warrior of Light for his tireless work, promising him all the comfort and assistance he needs back in Ishgard. The sun rises above the clouds. Instead of rising and returning home, Sirius simply sits on the bridge, dirt and debris all over their hair and clothes. It was over– the Dragonsong War would finally come to a close. No more would they lose the lives of those dearest to them. But it does not erase the pain and suffering they all endured to get there. Time would heal their wounds and scars. They would find their Scion companions and continue their journey where it left off. One day. But for now, on the battered and broken Steps of Faith, Sirius clutches their star globe tight, brings it to their chest, and they weep. “Excuse me everyone,” Eirika’s voice rings through the air, the crowd quieting down. When the room is close to silent, she announces: “I’d like to have a dance.” Huh. What. She gestures to the orchestral ensemble. “I have some lovely musicians here from the local town who will be playing for us today. Even if you wish to sit back, I hope you’ll enjoy the music!” What? Innes looks at his face, which is utterly confused. “What’s the problem?” “Eirika never told me we were having a dance,” Ephraim says. “This is the first I’m hearing of it.” “You planned a celebration with your sister, and you didn’t know about the dance?” Innes asks, baffled. “That’s all Tana talked about on the way here.” “I…I must’ve missed it.” “Well, we didn’t get all dressed for nothing, did we?” L’arachel tells him, and immediately reaches for the Frelian princess’s hand. “Come on Tana!” Estinien wordlessly walks over and studies their posture. Instead of verbally telilng Sirius what to fix, he uses his foot to correct them instead. He pushes one of their boots further back, and the othert slightly forward. At one point his knee brushes against Sirius’s own, and he misses the gasp that escapes their mouth. “It should be spread apart like that.” “I– I see.” Sirius stupidly stares at their feet imprinted in the dirt. Before he can ask for assistance with his hand placement, Estinien reads his mind and places a hand atop Sirius’s. He slowly slides one of their hands closer to the edge of the lance and the other past the middle. If Estinien corrects him on anything else, the words fall deaf on Sirius’s ears. His touch lingers for a few moments before finally letting go. “It will be easier to keep ahold of your weapon when jumping far. As long as you maintain that placement with your hands and legs, it will grow easier with practice.” Sirius is sure his heart is beating loud enough for all of Eorzea to hear. It takes a moment for him to calm it and commit Estinien’s corrections to mind. “Thank you, Estinien, I’ll remember that.” (Well, not that he could ever forget the feeling of his bare hands on his skin, gently guiding them to the right position.) A dozen berries, sugar, and lemons later, the jam looks and tastes absolutely delicious. It would have to sit in the fridge still, but Natalia is already beaming at the thought of pairing it with her cake. “It should still be about another hour or two,” Asch tells her as he finishes cleaning the last of their dishes. “You can spread it on top and serve it after.” He spins on his heel to leave the room, contemplating saying goodbye or even a small wave, but a hand stops him before he can do so. Light-green eyes stare into his emerald own, a look of longing deep within. “Stay,” Natalia says quietly. “Unless someone’s asked for you, of course…” Asch shakes his head. “No. I wasn’t needed for anything for the rest of the day.” He does not know what compels him to do so, but he lifts a hand to Natalia’s face. A calloused finger brushes just under her eye, cradling her cheek. “I don’t mind staying.” The rosy pink blush dusted over the princess’s cheeks is enough to keep Asch awake for the rest of the night.
