Being episodic, villains and locations are rooted in real-world historic themes and anecdotes. Devils, here interpreted as the malevolent dead, represent the consequences and legacies of individual lives. Abrahamic demons, meanwhile, represent societal problems and fallacies run rampant

The story follows Mary, a clairvoyant revolutionary desperate for a better world, Wesley, a dead man seeking to create upheaval from beyond the grave, and Baxter, the heir of american sloth, villainous entrepreneur in pursuit of happiness… Nimrod, a fallen angel, could seemingly enable either party.

CWNW takes place in late 19th century america— wherein abolition, spiritual re-revival, technological and capitalist overhaul occurred simultaneously over the span of the generation prior. the future is uncertain, in a present that extends past what was perceived as apocalypse.
