Pax Christi USA 1998 Teacher of Peace Kathy Kelly writes about the horrific violence inflicted on the Palestinian people: "It is deliberate, escalatory. Shunning all international condemnation, it is ethnic cleansing aimed at involuntary population transfer and, unless disrupted, mass atrocities."
Go tell it on the mountain: Genocide is wrong
By Kathy KellyPax Christi USA 1998 Teacher of Peace While Israel’s genocide against Palestinians in Gaza continues, the Israeli government  paves the way for a ‘Gazafication’ of the West Bank. A version of this article appears in The Progressive Magazine. Israel and its partners continue waging genocide against Palestinian people. Those who, so far, have survived the hideous attacks since October 7, 2023, now face ongoing jeopardy.

From last year's Advent reflection guide: Leslye Colvin writes that throughout Scripture, we are invited to be in right relationship with the Creator. Like Mary, "Accepting the invitation liberates us to set aside our expectations so that we seek the newness God reveals for us."

Johnny Zokovitch writes about the abhorrent and illegal attacks by the US on "drug boats" in the Caribbean. Extrajudicial killings are always wrong -- we must name and confront them as the evil that they are.
Murder. Plain and simple.
By Johnny Zokovitch As I write, Admiral Frank M. Bailey is testifying to a Congressional committee regarding a US military strike on a “drug boat” in the Caribbean this past summer. At issue, in particular, is whether a second strike aimed at killing two survivors of the initial bombing was illegal and a war crime, and exactly who was responsible for the order to kill survivors.

Pax Christi USA Ambassador of Peace Scott Wright reflects on his recent visit to the Holy Land, the release of the new Kairos Palestine document, and the call to all of US Christians to respond to the Palestinian people with faithful nonviolent resistance, defiant hope, and costly solidarity.

"The urgent promise of God's second coming is both a threat for the powerful and a hope for those who suffer." For the first Sunday of Advent, Flora x. Tang writes about the challenge to resist society's demand for urgency and speed, versus the urgency in Christ's message -- "the day is at hand!"

On this International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People (Nov. 29), Pax Christi USA reaffirms our commitment to stand in solidarity with all our sisters and brothers in the Holy Land, for it is only when every human being is valued as a child of God that justice and peace will prevail.
November 29, International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian people
Today, Saturday, Nov. 29, is the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. The date commemorates the day in 1947 when the United Nations adopted Resolution 181 on the partition of Palestine. In mid-November, Kairos Palestine released its new document, Kairos II: A Moment of Truth in a Time of Genocide. This document builds on the call to the international church of the first Kairos document from 2009, …

Johnny Zokovitch writes that this weekend's gospel, ushering us into Advent, rings out as a warning to those of us who have eyes but don’t see, ears yet don’t hear. What awaits those among us who are oblivious to people in our own communities being systematically disappeared?
This Advent reminds us that “God-is-with-us.” Just not as we might expect.
By Johnny Zokovitch In St. Louis, where I live, 300 people have been picked up by ICE since August. Just this past week, two people were arrested by ICE agents and sent to a detention center in St. Genevieve, over an hour away from their homes and families. The church where I work is offering material and moral support to more than 30 immigrant families who are afraid to attend church, shop for groceries, send their children to school or sports, go to work, or venture out from their homes for nearly any reason lest they too be grabbed off the street, detained, and deported.

Sr. Annie Killian, OP, a member of the Pax Christi USA national council, reflects that peace-making demands intersectional thinking about the many interconnected injustices that lead to violence.
Peace on Earth: Truth, justice, liberation
By Sr. Annie Killian, OPPax Christi USA National CouncilPax Christi Young Adult CaucusNonviolence working group The Gandhian principle of nonviolence, satyagraha, literally means "clinging to truth." Truth is the sine qua non in the quest for justice, peace, and liberation. As peacemakers, we proclaim the truth that all people are endowed with inalienable dignity and the right to life, which extends not only to human beings but to Earth and our fellow creatures.

For the feast of Christ the King this Sunday, Johnny Zokovitch reminds us that Jesus "sacrifices himself for his people and identifies not with those in power...but with those on the margins or underside of society. ...He remains loyal to the God of peace and compassion [and] rooted in nonviolence."
We have no kings. We have Jesus.
By Johnny Zokovitch How fitting in these days of “No Kings” protests that this Sunday we celebrate a feast that, despite the name, provides us the analysis that both underpins the slogan and indicts the current administration as being utterly irreconcilable with the example of Jesus. Johnny Zokovitch writes in from the Pax Christi International world gathering taking place this week in Florence, Italy. He reflects on how one of the compelling revelations of the gathering is how the message of nonviolence has taken root and grown within the Catholic world in the past 10 years.
Moving nonviolence from the periphery to the heart of the Catholic Church
By Johnny Zokovitch This week I have been in Florence, Italy as part of Pax Christi International’s 80th anniversary world gathering, Building Bridges for Tomorrow. This is the third world gathering that I have taken part in, and at each, I come away with a deeper appreciation for how we who do our work in the United States have such dedicated and courageous friends and colleagues around the world witnessing – often at great personal cost – to the power of nonviolence.
