The host on @cfcrcommunity.bsky.social just gave the information I was hoping for before rolling into the second song on side two. The song is from The Guess Who Live at the Paramount.
Side two
"American Woman" (Randy Bachman, Cummings, Jim Kale, Garry Peterson) - 17:05

Great stuff.

I did see a few critters and plants today during my walk in the nearby urban park. I didn't try to catalogue *everything* I saw or I would still be out there.

The first bird spotted and identified on our trip to Costa Rica! Passer domesticus, the house sparrow 🤣

Oh, and I think that was a cabbage white butterfly that just flew by.

Dammit.

I'm on uncle duty this weekend. Brought my nephew to his hockey tournament while his parents are away. He zonked just before the end of the 10th inning.

My current favourite punctuation mark is the interrobang. If I'm posting a question on social media, odds are high that I am doing so to express my incredulity.

What do mean you don't want to go for a 120 km bike ride after work‽

Damn, I make good soup if I do say so myself.

There is a LOT of forest in Saskatchewan and much of it is coniferous. Well over half of Saskatchewan is covered in boreal forest. We have a lot of farmland, and lot of trees.

It was a great moon last night during my bike ride. MUCH more impressive in person than it shows up on my cell phone photo.

I just finished listening to a great audiobook by Alex Hutchinson, The Explorer's Gene. I really enjoyed it and a lot of points struck a chord. One thing annoyed me though, the narrator's pronunciation of various Canadian and indigenous words. e.g. Chipewyan, portage, Iroquois, Regina...

Welp, I now have an open air cab on the grain cart tractor. The wind caught the glass door and whipped it open, smashing it into a million tiny pieces.

Colin Linden at The Bassment was amazing. Damn, that was a good show. #yxe

It seems the common earthworm Lumbricus terrestris is introduced to North America from Europe. inaturalist.ca/taxa/81545-L...

9 species are reported on iNaturalist in Mb and some of those could be confused with common earthworm. It looks like all earthworm-like ones are introduced to Canada.

Well that was a first. Had a coyote pursue my dogs and I while I was running a trail just outside of Humboldt.

Morning view. The storm passed me by.

It was day 2 of a 3-day adventure and my route had me winding through the Thickwood Hills today. It's a beautiful part of Saskatchewan. Most of the morning was spent in aspen parkland forest.

Can't sleep so might as well post some pictures from today. 95 km on a heavily loaded bike on hilly terrain with a route that included grassy trails, rocky double track, pea soup gravel, etc. was tough. The hills were steep, 650 m elevation isn't that bad over that distance, but it was a slog.

Loaded and ready to head out in the morning for a 3 day gravel adventure.

That's not even the fish I was thinking of when I mentioned having having a fish bite me. That one was while fishing on the Churchill River near Pawistik Island (where I pilfered my username from). This sucker bit me pretty good.

I had forgotten about this when I posted earlier but fb reminded me. We were netting fish on Lk. Diefenbaker looking for spawning females. A big jack clamped down on my thumb through the glove into my finger and sliced through the thumbnail when I yanked my finger back. Ouch! #biologist #toxicology

Get off the highway and explore. Both of these areas are about a 15 minute drive off of the Trans Canada Highway. Traveling across Canada and have a bit of time to enjoy it? Detour into the Qu'Appelle Valley in good weather and you won't regret it. Better yet, explore it by bicycle.

The next evening I ventured north of town to the Qu'Appelle Valley. It was a fantastic ride, even though it went later into the evening than intended. The #637 is a beautiful road and among the best gravel roads I have ever ridden. Curving, gently rolling and scenic with little actual gravel.

The first ride was south of town around the Pipestone Creek through the small valley. One of the recommended roads was still snowed in so I rerouted back to the vehicle on the highway.

This past week I was working in Whitewood, SK, and went for a couple of great evening bike rides while there. I really enjoyed exploring the area.
