A Winter Wren bopping along the edge of a fallen log. I find these birds to be the cutest of the wrens we have here in Michigan due to their spherical shape.

I thought these Kingfishers were a perfect match for today's #BirdOfTheDay theme chosen by @alan678.bsky.social, the theme is #Movement and the alternative was #LookingUp

An Aurora Framed

I planned for this shot to have a nice wee shape, with dark skies across the top. The trouble with Aurora though, they don't listen! So much bigger and more intense than expected!

The news is a depressing dumpster fire but how lucky are we that things like a Red-bellied Woodpecker are just hanging around our local parks? 💚🪶

@alan678.bsky.social theme for today's #BirdOfTheDay is #SongBirds with an alternative of #SeaBirds.

I'm going with a Robin, Dunnock, Long-tailed Tit & Song Thrush from various venues in 2025.

Not quite in full #Borb mode yet, some of these dark-eyed juncos are starting to plump up. I love the one at the bottom left of the feeder who had his head all the way inside. The poor finch patiently waited ages to get a turn at the feeder. #BirdOfTheDay #Birds #Photography #EastCoastKin

Woodpecker Watch, A Rooftop Reverie

This is a red-bellied woodpecker (Melanerpes carolinus), captured some time ago. I hesitated over whether to include it, but the moment felt worth preserving. The bird was perched on the edge of the roof of a small, red barn-shaped shed in my backyard.

In the last few days, at 03.30, somewhere close to my bedroom window, a robin has decided to ditch his melancholy autumn lament and break into his spring serenade. As we’re still 16 days from the winter solstice, he clearly understands the benefits of being an ‘early bird’.

We usually don’t see #borbs in Miami- it’s too warm here, and woodpeckers are usually too sleek to be borbs. But this juvenile red-bellied woodpecker fluffed out his feathers enough to briefly become a borb. #BirdOfTheDay #EastCoastKin #birds
