Maybe that those of us who grew in the British education system of the 20th century were overdosed with how wonderful the British Empire was and how slavery, as Olusoga rightly points out, was some kind of 'annexe' that was not worth discussing except for abolition. There is need for a correction.

3. Berate the presenter for sticking to historical realities rather than myths Britain had not introduced democracy anywhere before the end of empire and there was no thought of developing colonies until 1929, even then based on loans with interest.

It was Michael Prescott who kept referring to History Reclaimed in his Media select committee evidence - whether a history of Empire from the privateer/slave trader/overseer/Imperial administrator perspective will draw the viewers, another matter.

I’d recommend more investment in external academic research by trusted partners
Michael Prescott claims his report wasn't supposed to be comprehensive analysis of David Grossman's report on impartiality, just "edited highlights" and a "primer" for the Board of the BBC.

But he felt that on this flimsy basis it was something to bring to the attention of the regulator and Govt?

When I was in govt we used to prep ministers for select committees by doing trial sessions. And we were so much better at it than MPs. They almost never ask the difficult questions.
One frustration of watching MPs ask questions for an hour is that they're not very good at it. Prescott has not been asked about the fairly glaring errors in his own report – that *it misquoted Trump in exactly the same way it says Panorama did*

I would still like to know how Nigel Farage's partner Laure had £855,000 to buy a house for his constituency visits?

Good to hear yesterday from @sundersays.bsky.social and @petergeoghegan.bsky.social on the immense risk of X as it ignores legal obligations and its owner tries to influence UK politics.

This article is excellent and challenges Michael Prescott report's impartiality and methodology. I still cannot understand how Prescott was appointed by the BBC board. There are many people who would have been far more appropriate and without Prescott's baggage. theconversation.com/bbc-bias-the...
BBC bias? The Prescott memo falls well short of the standards of impartiality it demands
The Prescott memo contained no research questions or objectives, method, sample, time frame or, crucially, analytical framework for examining output.
