December 1 marks the start of "meteorological winter" — it's the season in which we see the smallest temperature differences between the Bay Area's various microclimates.

In case you missed it, my latest appearance on the CBS Evening News. Going to be an interesting weekend for nationwide travel…

(Also, my Aggie maroon tie did not bring my team any luck.)

"Ramsey & Jolie" broke out their finest pilgrim attire for Thanksgiving — they may have wanted that headgear to stay warm today! The fog shouldn't be as stubborn tomorrow, allowing temperatures to warm up a bit more. Enjoy the weekend!

Leo trying his best to bring A&M some luck

Hope you all had as good a Thanksgiving as "Tucker." Weather looks favorable for a Friday walk to burn off some of those holiday calories!

Leo ran his first Turkey Trot this morning. Little guy did great!

Fog and low cloud cover still stubbornly clinging to the interior valleys of the North Bay and East Bay, so temperatures there will only top out in the 50s. Highs in the 60s elsewhere -- all in all, a nice Thanksgiving!

🚨ADOPTABLE DOG ALERT🚨

"Agatha" would be most thankful for a fur-ever family, but tomorrow she'll have to be content with some Thanksgiving temperatures. If you're adding this sweet senior to your home in time for the holidays, details here:

Today's air quality: not great.

Another Spare The Air alert for Thanksgiving, so resist the urge to fire up those wood-burning fireplaces and stoves.
November 27, 2025 at 1:42 AM
Another Dense Fog Advisory is in effect through 11:00am Wednesday, for most of the North Bay and the interior valleys of the East Bay.

Allow some extra time for the morning commute, and some extra stopping distance!

🚨ADOPTABLE DOG ALERT🚨

"Opal" needed that jacket in the North Bay today, since the fog was extra-stubborn and temperatures were stuck in the 50s. It looks like the sun should break through tomorrow, after more morning fog. Details on how to adopt Opal here:

Such a good pose from "Roxy" — complete with a pretty sunset sky! Morning fog will give way to afternoon sunshine tomorrow, so she can get out for a nice stroll in the comfortable temperatures. More of the same the rest of this week...
November 25, 2025 at 3:24 AM
The travel trouble spot in California this week will be the central valley, where Tule fog will be incredibly stubborn through at least Thanksgiving.

Some of that fog will sneak into the Bay Area each morning, but will give way to plenty of sunshine each afternoon!

🚨ADOPTABLE DOG ALERT🚨

Sun's out, tongues out for "Linnett" on Friday...even though that sun won't warm us up all that much. Still, a return to near-normal temperatures means good walking weather! She's adoptable from the East County Animal Shelter:

Just-after-5pm radar update: most of the showers moved out earlier today, but one last shower has developed into an actual thunderstorm! Brief downpours and even some small hail possible as this drops southward through the East Bay.
November 21, 2025 at 1:06 AM
A damp start to the day on Thursday — luckily, "Hootie & Maisey Day" already have a comfy spot staked out on the couch. They can get out for a walk in the afternoon, once the showers have fizzled out. Dry weather for more walks this weekend!
November 20, 2025 at 2:25 AM
6:00pm radar update: Showers approaching the North Bay coast, but the real rain is still several hours away. A tenth of an inch to a quarter-inch of rain likely tonight, & some spots could overachieve and pick up closer to a half-inch! No flooding concerns, just be ready for a wet morning commute...

🚨ADOPTABLE DOG ALERT🚨

Cloudy and cool on Wednesday, but still dry — so "Joey" can still get out for a good walk before the rain returns tomorrow night. This handsome fella is available via Lily's Legacy in Petaluma:

Forecast models have really backed off on the intensity of our next rain-maker, Wednesday night into Thursday. Still measurable, but without the threat of even localized flooding.
November 19, 2025 at 1:06 AM
The recent rain and wind knocked a lot of leaves off the trees, so "Lily & Lulu" will have plenty of foliage in which to frolic on Tuesday! We should see plenty of sun, although temperatures will remain a couple degrees below-average.
November 18, 2025 at 2:27 AM
One more chance of rain heads our way Wednesday night into Thursday. Low flooding potential with this system, but the Thursday morning (of course) commute looks like it will be messy. #CAwx

Rain inbound, along with some supercell-ish structures lined up offshore. I’ll stay up for a while to watch this roll in…
