At the top of the image, basalt cliffs topped with moss-covered evergreens converge to a point about 1/5 of the way down from the top and in from the image left. From there, a roaring plume of white water plunges 136 down to crash onto the boulders and then wind its way down towards the next waterfall. Vines and shrubs with some clinging remnants of autumn colors are in the foreground and on the rocks of the far shore.

Welcome to the Garden A foggy morning during peak autumn colors in the Portland Japanese Garden. Vertical color photo. The lower entrance to the Portland Japanes Gardens is a roofed break in a white wall. Surrounding the walkway and the structure at the lower elevations of the hill, are splashed of intense yellow, orang and read fall colors. Huge evergreens rear out of the hill and extend up into the fog and out of frame. If the far background, you can just make out the building at the top of the garden complex.

Sunrise Over Portland: horizontal color photograph. The sun has just crested the Cascades Mountains in the upper right of the scene, where it shining through, over, and under the thin streaks of clouds that semi-cover the sky all the way across the frame. About 1/3 of the way in from the left side, and above the mid-ling of the image, looms the cone of Mt. Hood. The sun's rays emanated out from the sun and down through the image, turning the morning mist orange, first illuminating the folds of the Cascades, and then the skyscrapers of downtown Portland, Oregon. In the bottom of the image, layers of silhouetted trees block some of the view of Portland as the Tualatin Mountains rise from the valley to the viewpoint at Pittock Mansion where this photo was taken.

A bush with vibrant fall colors of orange and yellow is the focus of the image, coming in front he bottom of the frame to just about the midpoint. There are mossy boulders below the leaves that lead the eye across the little creek and to the fern lined opposite bank. There, in the center, top portion of the image, is a Japanese arched lantern piece with a moss-covered roof that blends in with the shrubs and trees around it.
