I had a really good conversation about it on Friday with a friend. I've experienced all these things myself: anger at being called out, defensive after my own ill-advised behaviour, rage at perfectly valid criticism. My conclusion was: listen and learn. Other folks I guess table flip and nope out.

I’ve struggled to understand it too. Best guess is a victim mentality, no learned emotional regulation, seeing criticism as an attack, and then taking the status quo literally that they can do and say what they want without tangible consequences.
