I just realized the TV edit cuts the "I was in Junior High, dickhead" line between the FBI agents and I'm so mad.
Every character is *instantly* interesting. John is alternately confident and insecure all while being self-aware, the chemistry between him and Holly jumps off the screen, the IT guy is written the opposite of what an IT guy is usually portrayed as.

I'm convinced this is the fundamental difference between good and great film/TV writing. If you cannot make a character interesting in 30 seconds you're wasting everyone's time.
Every character is *instantly* interesting. John is alternately confident and insecure all while being self-aware, the chemistry between him and Holly jumps off the screen, the IT guy is written the opposite of what an IT guy is usually portrayed as.

Armchair psychoanalysis: Lane really needed to be told "no" as a child a lot more. He expects the world to bend to his will, assumes everything he does is right and good, and that everyone that disagrees with him or tells him no is wrong.
