This is a racist and discriminatory move that will not only harm those most in need of the redress payments, but undermines the very purpose of this redress scheme! People Against Prisons Aotearoa demands better for those abused at the hands of the state.

The government continues to punish and shame those abused by the state by attempting to introduce legislation that will make people who have committed certain offences ineligible for redress payments. This directly goes against what was recommended in the Royal Commission Report.

No efforts to reform policing have ever been successful because the police cannot be reformed - they are enemies of equality that we must struggle against and overcome.
