There was also definitely an anime series based on Moby Dick... which is set in space, & the ship is hunting some sort of space whale. I never actually watched it, but an anime store I used to go to had a box set on the shelf & I was always curious/worried about it.

There's a whole long-running (like, since the 60s) manga/anime/movie IP called Lupin The Third, in which the titular character is the descendant of the master thief Arsène Lupin from an early-20th-Century series of French novels (which the Netflix series LUPIN is also separately a riff on).
