Oh, the irony.

4.8 million Texans voted for Harris. We aren’t all deserving of your contempt.

I wondered. Came her to double check. It’s bad.

I hope you are right.

Just sickening to cut away from Senator Padilla for that.

How about you stop adopting MAGA perspectives. See that flag through the eyes of my Houston-area community college students who while US citizens identify as “Mexicans”. They understand that flag. And, hopefully, MAGA is losing them. Which demographic is growing? Kansas MAGA or LatinX?
June 10, 2025 at 2:12 AM
Sure. In Kansas. But America isn’t Kansas. It isn’t even mostly Kansas. He’s blowing it bad with the fastest growing demographic. Those who take meaning from that Mexican flag. Symbols can have multiple meanings. You are only seeing one. Not good analysis.

1. Why accept their take and bemoan what you see as mistakes?
2. Why not open your own analysis to see the ways these symbols play out with disparate groups? Are the percentages really favoring the views of the narrow MAGA base?

They vote, too. In fact, according to polls and voting record, they are MAGA leaning. Or were. I would hope/guess? Trump is losing them. It’s the central issue, isn’t it? How do we create a pluralistic society. Do you really want to be on the side of the monolith? Is that even good analysis?
June 10, 2025 at 1:43 AM
You are really flattening out social meanings with your assertion. I teach at a Community College in the Houston area. Most of my students, even while citizens, identify as “Mexican”. Mexican flags are part of their identity. They would see those images very differently than mid-west MAGA. (Cont.)

The Trump appointee, Walker, makes me sad for my country.

She’s, currently, chewing him up. Most satisfactorily.

As a person who teaches down here at the community college level, can I just add that the Myths and Moundbuilders documentary from the PBS Odyssey series disseminated the info from these pre-Clovis scholars in a popular format back in 1981.

“Our male ancestors lived and died by the sword, in stark contrast to the sedentary life of the modern man, who risks injury from sitting too long, hunched over his computer reading Wikipedia articles about the ingenuity of Roman aqueducts.”
Which ancestors were those?

Disgusting. It’s trickling down. I’ve had to get administrative interventions for a student (who has a buddy) in my intro Archy class. Continual aggressive attacks on the most basic concepts. Screaming “bullshit” at me. They are empowered.
