It was, I think, Sherlock Holmes who explained that when placed in peril, folks will betray themselves, reflexively rushing to protect that which they most fear to lose. I won't pretend I'd do otherwise, in the face of such as that.

Fun fact. If you use a band saw to cut a 3" lead alloy block, there's a good chance the blade pops loose and flails around the room. I learned this from a first hand account. And so never tried it myself.
