The geological map is wonderful!

It looks so much more real than the political maps. I wonder why that is.

That's very dark, which is when lamp rays…(ok, ok, I was just leaving)

Family names were, still are, often taken from places.

Even those that change from one place to another, like the hill of Batten that conveniently became a Windsor.

Thank you. I did not know that about the island (which, just to nitpick, is often taken to also include most, but not all, of the tiny islands nearby), having assumed it was an older name for the United Kingdom.

'Reporters' are not the entity that files charges for war crimes.

And in a tyranny, the biggest action is to silence the people's voices.

That leaves the standard process, JAG etc. It hasn't always worked in the past, but that doesn't mean it is more dead in the water than the crew of that boat.

Since Ireland did not seem to be clearly depicted, I guess this is not even the British Isles.

Names can be lacking, or deliberately confusing, and, since I haven't paid money for something to read the long posts, I don't even know why the mapmaker was named Paris, a dire strait away!

This explains why some people think humanism is better, a philosophy that goes beyond simple monolithic religion (because that doesn't exist, as is pretty obvious) in the management of nation-states.

Since it doesn't have wide public backing, it can't work right now.

…winning political strategy. Nevertheless, that is the top GQP plan (or concept of a plan, to quote the OB again) under consideration.

Universal Health Care must be so unbelievably complicated.

Only 29 out of the world's 30 richest countries have figured out how to make it work. 9/9

Just like the people whose house didn't burn down, these people didn't "lose" their premiums. They can be happy that they remained relatively healthy.

With the US far more unhealthy than Scandinavia, those numbers are probably different. Saying "screw the people who get sick" may not be a…8/n

With health care, the possible political benefits are a bit more complicated.

A study done in Scandinavia a decade ago found that over a lifetime, ¼ people use up more health care than they paid for, another ¼ use up roughly what they paid, & ½ the people pay more than they ultimately receive…7/n

…it would mean giving each home US$ 100, and no insurance. Yes, 990,000 would be happy to have got that, while the other 10,000 would be homeless. Come to think of it, it's amazing the OB hasn't thought of this — it's a typical scam to fool the Magamorons, plenty of the 990,000 may vote for him.6/n

like Senator Rick Scott (who pleaded guilty and was fined for health care fraud a decade ago) are suggesting, to quote the OB — "we should give money directly to the people and cut out the Bad Insurers who are screwing them".

In the 'homes' example above…5/n

This is how all insurance works, whether it is homes, cars, unemployment or disability. Nobody can be sure they won't be affected, and so take out insurance.

Bismarck set the stage for health insurance way back, 1883. His ideas caught on in Europe and then in every country that could afford it…3/n

Leaving out insurer administration and profits, in such a country, every home would pay USD 100 as insurance. The 10000 damaged homes would get helped - and the other 9.99 million will "lose" their premium, but can be happy their G_d left them alone...2/n

And why, instead of the constituted investigative authorities?

Ummm... like, just maybe, the FBI?

"…hint at just how many mysteries Uranus is still hiding".

It took nearly 2000 years for humans to decide it was a planet, and over 200 more to start using better gadgets to learn more details.

But we blame the planet for hiding in plain sight.
