Writer, parent, dog-owner, beginning guitarist, Gen-Xer who is continually embarrassed by the voting patterns of the majority of her cohort.
My hot take, which I can't post on FB because all my musical theater friends will yell at me, so I shout it out into the void here, is that the reason "Chess" the musical has never really worked as a play is NOT the book; it's the songs. And I love the songs (duh, I'm GenX). But they're the problem.

Really good read!
Wrote about data from last week's elections that brought some good news about zoomer guys who broke for Trump in 2024.

The data includes some disappointing numbers about my fellow millennial men.

“The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” is a moving memorial to those who died but it continues to be a wildly unsuccessful strip club song.

Big news day today so you might have missed @npr.org quietly sliding a Doobie Brothers Tiny Desk under the front door. youtu.be/jrkOQuRYCIQ

The oligarchy came out in full force against Zohran Mamdani's fight for a more affordable NYC.

It didn't matter.

Let his victory in the face of Big Money serve as a reminder that people have the power.

I felt like today's news was an unkind tease from the Universe, but my spouse said maybe it's less a tease and more an amuse bouche.

@andylevy.net Enjoyed hearing you on FastPolitics this week; not gonna lie, though, what I was left with after was an incredible dose of envy that you saw Asia at Forest Hills.

When musicians don’t know how to end a song, they just fade out. I think other writers should do that too. Sketch comedy, screenwriting, playwrights. Have everyone talk softer and softer as they slowly sneak off stage.
Novelists can end chapters with gradually shrinking type.

Mike Nichols: “I said, ‘You can’t play it. You can never play a loser.’ And Redford said, ‘What do you mean? Of course I can play a loser.’ And I said, ‘O.K., have you ever struck out with a girl?’ and he said, ‘What do you mean?’ And he wasn’t joking.”
