Grassroots nonprofit fighting for more homes for all New Yorkers
"What if we make new housing illegal in 90% of the city and then build 3 blocks of Dubai" was not good housing policy

Our Executive Director @AnnemarieGray.bsky.social on joining @ZohranKMamdani.bsky.social's transition:
"Bringing down the cost of living, especially the soaring cost of rent for working New Yorkers, has been the core of your campaign and the heart of my career in housing."

We’re here in Central Park with Mayor-Elect @ZohranKMamdani.bsky.social to announce that our Executive Director @AnnemarieGray.bsky.social will be joining his transition committee on housing!

“The core of the problem is simple: Too much money chasing too few homes.

In 2025, America built fewer homes per 100,000 people than it did in 2005, 1995, 1985 or 1975. If you wanted to encapsulate the entire problem in a single chart, here it is:

“If most renters showed up in the primaries and demanded that their mayor and City Council actually do good things, we could have some pretty different outcomes”

New Yorkers just did that, electing @ZohranKMamdani.bsky.social and @YesOnAffHousing.bsky.social props 2-5. Change is in the air.

Props 2-5 have given a voice to the majority of New Yorkers who want to see more housing — instead of letting a small and well-housed few dominate our housing process.

“These questions will supercharge [Mamdani’s] ability to achieve his goal,” said our @andrewdfine.bsky.social

City of Yes is already working. This building now has:
✅ More affordable homes
✅ Deeper affordability
✅ A larger supermarket for the community

These measures will help ensure that borough-wide and citywide perspectives are taken into account on housing decisions, so that small groups of hyperlocal opposition won’t block the housing New Yorkers want and need.

This is a very different picture of housing support than you’d think based off the average community board meeting. Why?

“The loudest community voices are a small minority of any area. And those voices get amplified in certain public meetings and certain press” said @andrewdfine.bsky.social

The results split on largely partisan lines:
All but 4 Democratic districts voted in support
All but 1 Republican districts voted against

@citylimitsnews.bsky.social: “Total YIMBY Victory?”

@yesonaffhousing.bsky.social props 2-5 won in almost every part of NYC—read what our own @andrewdfine.bsky.social has to say on why.

Killing new housing in the suburbs = killing affordability in the suburbs, simple as that

CONGRATULATIONS TO @SHIRLEY4COUNCIL!!!
November 5, 2025 at 4:25 AM
In September, we launched @YesOnAffHousing.bsky.social, a campaign to pass these historic changes. Led by @amitsinghbagga.bsky.social, the campaign has reached millions of New Yorkers in multiple languages.

And that was before Republicans on the Board of Elections tried to sabotage the measures by illegally denying them access to the ballot.

Our members rallied, creating enormous public pressure to follow the law. The BOE stood down, and voted almost unanimously to advance the questions.

It’s been a long road here.

In February, we released A Charter for Housing Equity, a report laying out a set of charter reforms to promote housing, and we’re proud that many of these ideas were represented in the final proposals passed today.

NEW: ALL FOUR PRO-HOUSING BALLOT QUESTIONS PASS!!!

For the first time, New Yorkers had the chance to choose more housing at the ballot box—and they chose it overwhelmingly. This is a historic victory for housing that will help make NYC more affordable. 🧵

This record voter turnout is a great sign for props 2-5.

Per @YesOnAffHousing.bsky.social poll with Zenith Polls, YES voters are the majority across all 109 subgroups—but are especially strong among groups which have historically been less likely to turn out.

Great talking to @TheAtlantic.com about @ZohranKMamdani.bsky.social and how rent stabilization can help enable more housing.

"We learned very quickly that you’re not going to get any support for new housing in an environment where people are scared of being priced out” said @andrewdfine.bsky.social
