One of the academic career forks I parked but expected to go back to, looking less likely as the years pass I admit, was in social models of creativity. The dynamics of multiagent systems that feed back on themselves have always been more interesting to me than learn+userinput>output.

Amazingly, it's the same week we learnt we're funded in an Australian Research Council Discovery Project on artists, AI and fairness, especially around T&C and corporate power, led by the amazing @kathybowrey.bsky.social and working with the Arts Law Centre. Game on.

meaning it's not fair because it's commercial and because it invades the market of the content being ripped off.

And so It gets interesting. What's coming for the image and video models now? And (my current research) what payment models are going to come to dominate, how transparent will they be,

This is coincidentally on the same day as a Judge lets suits against OpenAI by authors through despite no proof of substantive similarly.

Tables turning? My recent discussions with lawyers and active music biz folks is that the law is going to catch up and follow through with common sense fair use
