Whether or not he realizes it, Tierney is making an excellent argument for breaking up Ottawa. The challenges of the core are very different from those in his ward. Thats why Ottawa should be at least 2 different municipalities. #ottawa

Does your councillor refuse to accept the relentless pursuit of the mediocre? Do they vote no to starving community services and call for intiatives that actually make our community safer, instead of constantly throwing money into the police budgets? ottawacitizen.com/opinion/budg...

There's enough inaccurate or concerning information in the way in which @en.ottawa.ca is communicating about the 2026 Budget that I felt it should be addressed. And it's the concept of $252M in "savings" that I want to talk about, because this information is being used falsely. 1/
#OttBudget 2026 invests in the services we rely on every day. Through service reviews and continuous improvement, we have realized more than $252 million in savings during this Term of Council.
One example of a service improvement is the redesigned Open Ottawa platform.

The little things add up: broken sidewalks, unkempt weeds, the slow pace of snow removal. Austerity has a cost and a real impact on our quality of life.

We ask city staff to put together budgets, but they are working with scraps.

We can do so much better.

You'll note that there is zero talk of nationizing fossil fuel revenues for actual nation-building that benefits citizens (a la Norway), it's just corporate profit.
Also crucially, even if oil wasn’t killing the planet and costing us billions, this doesn’t create that many jobs anymore. Its literally a give away of our environment to raise some stocks.
Canada has had record breaking forest fires that show no signs of slowing down, let alone stopping, and Carney decides we can all stomach it so oil magnates can get more billions.

During the #16Days Against Gender Based Violence we remember that violence is a workers issue.

Unions have led the fight for paid domestic violence leave, safer workplaces, and real support for frontline services. We need governments to step up and fund the protections workers deserve.

Carney on Africa:
“Yes, Africa is part…Is it the first thing we worked on in terms of priorities? No…Because we have a responsibility to have that highest return.”
What a foolish, stupid thing to say/believe. Canada needs all the friends we can get, and he just told an entire continent to screw off.
The women that brought him to power might be raising their collective eyebrows.

Canada's view on Africa also bears reporting.
