Still, an aura of romanticism lingers on as freedom despite persecution wins the day, even if that love has to find refuge beyond the injustice of the American Dream.

His repeated attempts at leaving her, only to come back around in some form or another could almost be played for comedy if it wasn't for him being a wrongly accused & wanted man.

Loved the back half, where redemption & hope are dashed as the underlying fatalism of noir kicks in.

And then it hits you with that bleak neo-noir finale, and suddenly you're reminded just fickle some friendships can be when your reputation is used against you like a hidden knife while money's on the line.

Outstanding film.

I'm gonna give this a try in the coming days. I should've thought about this, but it completely escaped me as an editing excercise.

In fairness I don't know in the pursuit of this...freelancing career if I necessarily want to do reviews that often. But I also know I'm trying to expand how I talk about films even when on there.

I mostly fear that because they are so long I'll get farther and farther behind.

How do I fix this? Who knows, but it helps I've been low-key movie'd out and not watching much. Now just to find time to sit down and update my list.

Maybe.

Also I guess I'm out of the loop of whatever the discourse is around OBAA, or rather...a lot of things actually. Weird.
