For me it varies., if I'm looking for something and I haven't seen something I'm expecting I'll check and then I'll clear it out but often I forget for months.

So sorry to hear this shall be. But so glad that he's at the hospital so that he gets help. Getting to the hospital quickly is the biggest factor with bloat, afaik. Hold on tight.
