Yesterday, MPs debated the future of local media, calling for urgent investment, reform and regulation to combat AI, media consolidation, job losses, and the threat posed by tech giants.

Tim Dawson, NUJ freelance organiser, told LBC that President Trump’s dismissive response to questions about Jamal Khashoggi’s murder “sends a terrible message to despots around the world” and “appears to give a tacit acceptance to looking away when journalists are killed.”

We thank Grahame Morris MP for his speech in Parliament calling for the BBC to investigate and handle any errors proportionately, with regard to due process and without “political interference”.

Laura Davison, NUJ general secretary, spoke to LBC about the future of the BBC following resignations from its leadership. Davison called for governance reform and for the BBC to be sufficiently resourced + free from political interference.

“As long as STV wants to have those two ITV licences it has to produce quality news coverage, and cutting a third of the newsroom is not going to do that.”
