Rolling the cake: used a storebought strawberry jam instead of making my own from scratch, for today anyways, might switch it up for the real thing. Nice thin layer of that but on the other hand possibly too much whipped cream. Still, she rolled! She's wrapped up and in the fridge now.

Chocolate cake: involved separating the egg whites from the yolks and whipping them both up, then gently mixing them, then gently mixing in the dry ingredients... definitely more involved and tedious than the recipe I used last year so if this cake doesn't turn out better I will riot
