Black Friday reminder - that product with a great price being sold by a company with a name that's just a bunch of random letters may end up on our website someday because it explodes.

My heart hurts so much right now. My unit in Afghanistan was involved in two green on blue killings (Afghan soldiers killing US soldiers), so this all draws up a lot of hard memories.

Second, those guardsmen should have been at home with their families not standing on a street corner in DC.

It has taken me all f-ing day to finally understand what the meta conversation on this site was about. Sometimes you just open it, read some posts and say "nope, I'll figure this out later"

Being a CPT was great, being a major looked like a lot of bullshit.
Happy faces all around!

(The O-2 to O-3 bump actually was pretty great all around tbh)

Does anyone have a good solution for sharing a wishlist with multiple families that allows gift givers to check off that they bought something without telling me?

A friend spent an afternoon showing me how to build a website on GeoCities, it was magic that I could type into a text box and make content show up on the internet. I was hooked on computers after that.

Drifted into sysadmin land, became an Army Signal officer which led into product management.
What’s the lore behind choosing your career path ?

I am always fascinated by Ryan's perspective on what constitutes a professional and what that means for Bonsai and maybe other professions.

Yesterday I went to a bonsai study group where the world renown Dave DeGroot came by. He patiently talked through trees with novice to intermediate bonsai hobbyists and was not shy to grab his clippers. Now my tree has provenance.

Took off a ⅓ of this tree, and I love the improvement. #bonsai

Puget Sound Bonsai Club is doing a winter show, today I played with taking some photos of my Star Magnolia to submit.

Option 1 is a straight shot of the tree on a stand.

I interviewed a technical writer this week and he told me about building content for release notes by digging through git diffs and I just had to ask why Product Management did that to him, just professional malpractice.

I wonder how much of the gridlock in Washington is because the same people have been arguing with each other for 40 years in their respective houses. Not just the parties as organizations but individual representative and senators.

I voted NO. As long as there is still any time left to reverse the MAGA health care hike, I believe we should do everything we can to force Republicans to the negotiating table.

I've generally liked Angus King for a long time. An Independent through and through, my Maine youth thinks fondly of policies like giving every kid a laptop.

But he was Governor of Maine when I was 11. He is now 81, and caving to the Republicans. Maybe Maine needs two new senators.

Electricity is a state problem? How much of Washington’s electricity is managed and controlled by the Bonneville Power Administration?

A US Department of Energy organization
Pressed by Stephanopoulos on the fact that electricity prices have in fact gone up, Bessent punts: "Electricity prices are a state problem ... look, there are things the federal government can control. Local electricity prices are not one of them."
