Spent last week in Edinburgh flyering campervans and connecting with people in Facebook groups as part of my project on urban camping as outdoor recreation.

Survey takes 10–15 mins and open to anyone who’s camped in a city in the UK. (NB: Not unhoused/involuntary camping)

Sad to see that (school) Geography students think that leaving litter on the beach is okay 😢. Also, bagging your rubbish does not make it vanish. Also, when are these going to be called ‘recyclable’ and not disposable. Take your litter home or put it in the nearest bin people. Some of today’s finds.

Exciting!! I’ll be sharing my RSE research on urban camping in two shows this August as part of The Provocateurs programme at the Edinburgh Fringe. Come along to the shows or drop me a message if you’re interested in participating in the research.

What does morning smell like?

This was the question Kate McLean-MacKenzie and I asked at the #UncommonSensesV conference in Montreal. Beginning with a 6am smellwalk followed by a plenary we drew on literature, language, and crowd-sourced insight.

A smell map and co-authored paper to follow!

This we I seem to have swapped spotting curves in trees (#BackBone) for curves in rock

Early Mother’s Day walk just me n’ the dog while a football match was won and a sleepover lie-in was snoozed. Love watching the seasons change on regular routes. Happy to have a dog that, finally, after three years of seemingly relentless training, we can now let off in the woods.

Always looking out for #Sensory interpretation in the search for teaching ideas and examples. This time at the Pitt Rivers Museum.

A busy fortnight for my sensory geography students here in Edinburgh. Sound walking with Jonathan Prior last week, all things taste and flavour at Johnnie Walker Edinburgh this week. A week off and then smell mapping with Kate McLean the week after 😍

Couch to 5K training with the boy going well (if slowly, trying to fit it round all the football training). Nothing like running with a pre-teen to make you feel old and unfit 😂

We finally had our traditional New Year trip to East Lothian today complete with #KellyKettle, hot chocolate, sausages, fire and marshmallows 😊 Doggo undecided on her new dog bag but she emerged dry and clean as a whistle!

A quiet day today taking down the decs 🥲 using up the last of the mincemeat, oh … and an afternoon dog walk/trip to the pub 😏

Making the most of time off before work resumes next week. This time a walk in the hills by #Edinburgh.

Got to love #Edinburgh. So close to the beach but feels so far away when you’re on the sands.
