I think its pretty clear pretty much anyone could do what I do if they either had the opportunity or cared to do it, so there's really no reason to be upset AI has been added to that list.

Getting an AI to care about this stuff (motivated in the same research directions in a generative way) is probably, genuinely like 20+ years away but if they did, it'd mean I'd have a kindred spirit for the first time. Hardly something to cry about.

I fully expect AI to be able to do all the things I do at work at my level of quality in like 5 years maybe (bookkeeping and writing research reports). In my hobbies I'm a perfectly mediocre writer, the only thing I consider myself to be special at is caring about things no one else does.

I work at basically a small consulting firm, its small enough that we can cover everything going on at a weekly meeting. But it is the case that the clients just aren't gonna know a lot about how we come up with reports and such, otherwise they could do it themselves and we'd be out of a job.
