What? You can see this? Cool!

I'm a professional UI designer / programmer working on an indie game in my free time. I also do a lot of 3D modeling.

Trying to post every other day. Let's see how long that lasts.

On a whim I added an alternate path while blocking out level 2. I did not expect it to look this cool.

I've shown this effect before, but there's something else that's cool about it. There's nothing stopping me from placing these fake windows in front of walls. This is how the doors to other maps work. I didn't model any openings.

This unintentional shortcut is still here.

My game has unlockable mini-games in the form of arcade cabinets. These are all older titles I worked on solo. EchoWave was made for a game jam in 2017. I only started using Godot a few years ago, so all of these are ports.

Bella from LunarLux!

LunarLux: Eternity just got announced and I realized that my old fan art was on longer online. So here it is again.

When learning to make skyboxes I discovered that I could export a single cloud. I use those cloud textures to make it look like the game's environment is on top of them. It really helps sell the floating city setting.

It probably goes without saying, but the faces on my characters can be swapped independently from the skeletal animations. Also, every expression has lipflaps and blink frames to go with them. So I can make them talk at any time and they’ll randomly blink during cutscenes.

The gate is blocked. Looks like I need to find another way in.

These arches lie to you.
You'd never know that they're this low poly from a distance.

Meet Izzy:

She's a mechanic trying to keep the sky cities from falling. Unlike Alex, she doesnt have as much of an active role on missions. But she has a very unique talent, making her one of the most imporant members of the guild.

My early builds had the tutorial take place across 2 scenes. The finished version combined them.

Having everything in 1 map made it flow better. That early prototype was built in different engine. Moving it to Godot got me to rethink a lot of things.

The guard cutscene. Making this made me realize I needed to build my own tools. Notice how we start in a dialogue event and end in a different shot with a character moving? Switching between states like that isn’t the easiest thing to do.

The current town blockout. This place is a hub. The levels are mostly linear, but the areas connecting them aren't. It already has progression. There are lots of place-holder events, but you can get to the end of level 2 even though there isn't much here yet.

Lately I've found myself just opening the game messing around. Levels become part of the hub once you complete them, so it kind of enables that behavior.

I've been working on lots of effects for cutscenes.
This one is kind of plot important. It's based on something I saw in a dream a long time ago.

I'm neck deep in polishing cutscenes. I always worry about how these turn out, but so far it's been fun. This particular scene was re-storyboarded to improve the pacing. I'm still working on the timing and adding sound.

I have a few more old videos. They were too long to post before.

This is from early in the port process. Godot was still new to me. I was using a 9 year old PC that kept running out of VRAM. Only the test room existed, but most features were working.
