Is it a public transit trip if it doesn't include a BC Ferry?
Reposted by Nicholas Rae
For some general ideals:
Westshore -> Downtown in 20 min or less with 5 min frequency
Uptown -> UVic in 15 min or less with 5 min frequency
Swartz Bay -> Downtown in 30 min with 10 min frequency

Rather than saying "let's build light rail", we need to ask "what gets us better service than driving"

It sure seems to me like DRIPA is working exactly as intended. If a law doesn't align with UNDRIP, it should be updated to align.

Eby being upset that it's working as intended is definitely a choice, one that I'm not sure is good for anyone

Paris does it! Helsinki does it! Florence does it! So many places figured out how to run fast and reliable light rail lines - Toronto can too by giving transit riders the green light.
Transit signal priority is such an obvious, cost-free way of increasing speed (hence capacity) of LRTs & streetcars. I took the circum-Peripherique LRT in Paris & never encountered a red light. Just took a Florence tram from centre to airport: only one red light, which immediately changed to green.
Toronto's will have a new transit line starting tomorrow! Exciting!

While this is a long-overdue & much needed replacement for the overcrowded 36 bus, this community deserves to see a Line 6 that is meaningfully faster & more frequent than the bus. We're calling for transit signal priority.

I'm thinking today of the dozens of CoV team members that Ken Sim has fired, right before the holidays, thanks to his election-year budget stunt.

Workers keep us moving. We need to invest in our city and its services, and we need great people working for our city to do that.

I think they should have gone for "professionally dead" instead. Same vibe, much funnier
From the BC Conservative Party constitution:

“11.02 The Leader can only be removed from office by resignation, death, incapacitation…”

As Chantal Hébert said, folks are missing the climate forest for the pipeline trees.

Carney rolled back major climate policies for Alberta, now! In exchange for a lil industrial carbon price increase and the BS that is carbon capture!

Forgetting the pipeline, this is BAD for the climate crisis!
I'm not convinced that wasn't Carney's plan all along. It isn't Ottawa that said no to Alberta. "Now you run along, Danielle, and make friends and get it done." Oh wait, you can't? Oh well then, at least you tried.

Look out BC! China’s LNG demand drops for 13th month running. Last week, Pakistan cancelled a huge contract to purchase LNG from Qatar (even choosing to pay a penalty) because they no longer need/want it -- the solar revolution is quickly displacing demand for LNG.

this dude is part of a government that just committed to ramming a pipeline through bc's north coast over the objections of basically everyone.

yeah, i don't think laurel's work is continuing.
I also wish to thank the other candidates who ran in Victoria, especially Laurel Collins. As MP, @laurelcollins.bsky.social championed important initiatives on climate change and intimate partner violence. We share many values and I commit to continuing that work in Parliament. 6/

Have you considered ensuring that regulated drugs are accessible to everyone since this is a public health emergency
Please be aware, drug poisonings are increasing in Cowichan. Friends, family and community members using unregulated substances face increased risk.

See information below:
PLEASE SHARE: #Cowichan Overdose Advisory has been extended.

I had a fun time carrying Patrick around in my cargo bike and giving him a little tour of my and Urban Thrive's first car free townhouse in #yyj.

Quoting myself here: "I changed the way I build because the city changed the way it built" by investing in safe and convenient cycling infrastructure.

Adjusting the property tax increase for inflation, we can see that the zero-percent budget represents a 2% tax cut in real terms, the largest in the last 16 years.

Public Transit has a marketing problem in Canada. Not to customers (who love it) but to senior governments (who are apparently not even aware it exists). May I propose:

"Transit. It's like a pipeline, but for people!"

This is a great start - I would also add Right of First Refusal for the city/gov/non-profits as well so it is also possible for it to be turned into non-profit housing!

I love this, it's the way to go!
So I've been giving this some thought and cooked up a wacky idea that would calm the intersection, add more public space and expand the cycling network, while sidestepping issues with Kingsway regional movement.

I think the key is to make Main St a complete street and reject its arterial status.

Will got lucky in the timing of the election. Victoria will absolutely not vote for a party that is pro bc pipeline. Idk if the ndp would take him over collins, but greens would be a great choice too

The number of people speaking to Vancouver council simply asking for *an actual budget* rather than a vague budget outline should in itself enough to stop council from passing it. The bare minimum should be saying what you're going to cut.

it's never been clear to me why they got rid of the olympic line in the first place. like, the track and stops are there and it's a part of town that really needs east-west transit (and will need it MORE as the broadway corridor gets built out)
The City of Vancouver is considering private proposals to reactivate the Olympic Line with a new demonstration streetcar service.

If it goes ahead, the pilot project will begin sometime after the 2026 FIFA World Cup. #bcpoli #vanpoli #vanre
