One of my neighbors has been putting up these fish facts posters. All kinds of different fish, marine, freshwater, deep, shallow, all kinds. This is a good one. “Stg this real fish” took me out. Good work, neighbor.

🇺🇸 trifectas get shot at doing something

Obama chose policy (ACA). It didn’t fix the authoritarian problem

Biden chose policy (ARP/IRA). It didn’t fix the authoritarian problem

The platform must be institutional reform next time. Right from the start, as @dhnexon.bsky.social said
If we want to actually be a representative democracy, then the platform needs to be institutional reform. All the Popularism and all the policies follow from that, not the other way around.
- DC/PR/USVI statehood
- Enlarging the House
- MMDs
- New VRA
- Totally revamping SCOTUS: bsky.app/profile/mcop...
- Automatic universal voter registration
- Rewriting the "national emergency" laws: bsky.app/profile/mcop...
- Subordinating the Senate: bsky.app/profile/mcop...
Etc.

"Designing your organization for modern times: Lessons from the success of FiFA"
I feel like the mickey mouse prize for Trump is less an expression of genuine support and more that they understand it as the price for not having his thugs shake down FIFA for money every 5 seconds until the games. If those people know anything it's dealing with autocrats (Putin, Qatar, soon KSA)
The world's wealthy liberal democracies looked the other way on FIFA's corruption for years because they didn't think corruption in sports was a big deal or worth addressing, and now find themselves looking at FIFA as a powerful, increasingly-integrated part of the far-right anti-democracy movement.

The problem with questioning birthright citizenship in the US context should not be looked at with its economic peers, but its geographic. There’s a historical reason it exists and it underpins the entire state organization in the Western Hemisphere. There exceptions in the WH also tie into that:

A lot of regrettable decisions in the history of Christmas music, but Sinatra changing the lyrics “until then we’ll have to muddle through somehow“ to “hang a shining star upon the highest bough” is S-tier

i think to understand the meaning of the birthright citizenship clause to the framers of the 14th amendment, you have to understand significance of dred scott to the civil war republican party. dred scott wasn't just a bad ruling, it was understood as a rejection of the declaration itself.

On the last day of class, a student gave me this keychain of her cat's head. I hung it on the pin board next to my desk, so it's watching over me as I grade. Ah, I get it now.

The first school to market itself as AI free is going to corner the market on people interested in actually learning. And I would not be surprised if rich families and the children of people creating this tech were the first movers.
My employer, Dartmouth College, today boasts it's 1st Ivy "to launch AI at an institutional scale." It is doing this by partnering--"more than a collaboration"--with Anthropic, a company that stole the books of many faculty, me included, which many of us are suing.

I have had this wrong my entire life. I always thought PVI was an estimate of two-way vote margin.
(Cook PVI is partisan performance compared to national average, not two-way margin. You ~can double it to get the expected two way margin.)
