ABD, Princeton, East Asian Studies. Instructor, Asian History, Rider University. Perpetually writing my dissertation (warfare in 16th C. Kyushu, Japan). He/Him/あいつ/"That Nagashino Guy." At some point I'll start posting useful stuff here. Maybe.

Since I've got double the followers from a week ago, guess it's time for an intro thread. A post per topic I habitually post about:

I'm a PhD candidate at Princeton, very slowly working on a dissertation on 16th C. warfare in southern Japan (centered around the Shimazu family). 1/
His dad was pretty hard core too
This can be be strained, but the more I read up on the 1967 election of Minobe Ryokichi, a self-described "flexible utopian socialist" as Governor of Tokyo, the more I see 2025 Mamdani. It was an earthquake for the LDP, and looking at his agenda not hard to see why:

Kinda wild that I'm now the experienced elder adjunct being the shoulder to cry on for the first semester adjunct who is absolutely crestfallen his students can't label THE UNITED STATES or CHINA on a world map. We've all been there, my friend.

Very surreal feeling down here in Tokyo. The most slight feeling of shaking I've maybe yet experienced from an earthquake, yet prolonged enough that it was clear something was going on. Hope things are ok up north.
A large earthquake, currently measured at magnitude 7.2, has just hit off Aomori Prefecture. A tsunami advisory is in effect for southern Hokkaido and northeastern Tohoku. The earthquake was strong enough to be faintly perceived all the way in Tokyo.

Great thread and great assignment. Would love to do something like this taking my students over to the fancy school across town, especially since most of them are going on to be history teachers at the middle/high school levels. Be so worthwhile for them.
This semester in my Birds & Bees class, students had the chance to interact with archives & archivists 3 times. The first was in September when the archivists from the Drexel Legacy center came to visit and share photocopies of archival records from the Woman's Medical College of Pennsylvania.

Screw all of college football, my own team included. I went from justifiably angry for my team to now livid with the admin of my team. This is toddler nonsense. Oh, you're mad? Go beat the crap out of a bowl opponent, even without your best players. Eat some pop tarts. Don't throw a tantrum. Unreal.

Intermission of the nutcracker and I check news and Jesus way to be even bigger babies about it than the committee ND. Come the fuck on.

Every single team who lost their CCG dropped in the final ranking except for the one that lost by 3 touchdowns and had -3 rushing yards

I keep coming back to this:

Notre Dame's two losses were by a combined four points. Their most recent loss was on September 14th.

Alabama lost by 21 yesterday.

I have simultaneously complained about Space Force and the CFB playoff selection in the last hour and change and it's kind of magical how some of the replies I'm getting, I can't tell at first which fraud they're talking about.

To play a team that already beat them.
Everyone is talking about Bama getting in despite getting dogwalked yesterday, but let us not forget about Bama getting in despite getting dogwalked week one by Florida "not even going to a bowl" State

I can't even root for IU to just win it all because Cignetti is insufferable.

NEGATIVE THREE RUSHING YARDS
The committee clearly understood what America wanted, and that was more of Ty Simpson averaging 3.2 yards a reception in the second half of a blowout loss

These fucking idiots
WOW. Alabama is in at No. 9 -- the Tide stayed in and didn't drop at all after getting blown out in the SEC title game.

Hold up.

How, exactly, does the Space Force flag have CAMPAIGN STREAMERS?
I see Stallone sent a cardboard standee instead

i'm glad that stem colleagues now care that university administrators' claims of departmental "profitability" are all bullshit now that it's coming for them but a little solidarity while the humanities endured this for decades would've been cool
