Multiple plumes of smoke can be seen over Portugal & Spain in this video captured from space by Meteosat‑12 between 28-30 July.

Parts of Europe have already experienced many wildfires this summer, made worse by recent high temperatures & low humidity/high winds, making the fires harder to contain.

Is the ocean ‘having a moment’? This was the UN summit where the world woke up to the decline of the seas
A slew of global leaders met in the south of France to discuss the future of the oceans. There was ‘momentum’ and ‘enthusiasm’, but there were critical voices too

Dragging heavy nets across the seafloor isn’t protection—it’s destruction. So why is bottom trawling allowed across Europe's "protected" areas?

At #UNOC3, we're calling on governments to ban bottom trawling in marine protected areas. Ocean protection must be real protection.

Europe invests in the health of the ocean!

With €1 billion to promote sustainable fisheries and regenerate maritime ecosystems.

Knowledge is key for ocean conservation.

So an important part of these funds will support researchers in helping us understand and protect the seas.
