See I don't think we get competitive authoritarianism with the current crew. Unironicly, none of them are as smart as Orban and his crew. These guys will chew on the wiring enough that something breaks and the cycle ends one way or the other.

This is my hope! I hope we go this route. My faith in the median American voter is not strong enough for me to believe we can't vote ourselves into an autocratic system however. I don't believe we will, but it's not a wild possibility. The last several times this has happened here it didn't.

The other side is the slide into full authoritarian systems where there's no thermostatic cycle at all really. But the current throw the bums out cycle doesn't last, it's inherently transitory because it's so unstable something breaks. What breaks determines what changes.

I'm mean. No. All evidence points to the Theremostic Backlash Cycle not being sustainable. It doesn't require 'revolution' to break out of, but it does require big reforms, such as the massive civil service reforms or FDR's reforms, to positively break the cycle.

The median American will relearn the difference between things improving economicly or we're going to spectacularly implode.
