I’m Mawkish Twaddle?
@newaveclub.bsky.social
I'm a new-wave person much like yourself. Nearly all 327 Mawkish Twaddles I did on the radio in Frisco (2017-24) are at http://mixcloud.com/Bob_N/.

ICYI, Mawkish Twaddle is back: live on Mixcloud whenever I feel like it. See above link for recordings.
Accompanying the sentence that you’re reading at this very moment, and will finish before too long, are photographs of a few of the records that I somehow accumulated during the last few days in SF.

A whitefish bagel and matzoh ball soup at this hour on a Sunday morning? I don't see why not! (It's 11:30, after all. )

This is the three-year-old original location of Loveski (subtitle: A Jew-ish Deli) in Napa's Oxbow Market.

All the fog of August, plus the biting, wet chill of January -- in December. #marin

Pistachio milk cake and an orange blossom mint latte at this hour on a Sunday morning? I don't see why not! (It's 9:00, after all. )

This is the recently opened first SF location of Heyma Yemeni Coffee. It's on 9th between Howard and Folsom. The original? It's in Berkeley.

Nearly every time I hear Fats Domino, one of my first thoughts is: Is Chubby Checker still alive? And then I think: Yes, indeed he is. And everything seems right with the world for a moment.

Pictures from last night's last-ever Seablite show. Also on the bill were The Umbrellas and April Magazine, as you'll see in the fourth photograph in this colorful collection.

Foxy and I raced outside. Now we await the quake.

That’s about right.

It’s been nearly six weeks since the last one. Today there will be a new one. I’m bored with the old name, though. So starting today, Mawkish Twaddle will be known as Saltine Pantsuit. Until I get bored with that name.

Listen from 12:12 PM Pacific time today at mixcloud.com/live/Bob_N.

Monday evening fun with Foxy.

Gray Lady, please don’t dangle your modifiers like a ding-a-ling.

Still, in a better universe that *would* be the sole reason for the return.

I really fancy this new Nice Breeze LP. It's like Supercharger recorded a third album after they'd been listening to nothing but Thomas Jefferson Slave Apartments for a year. Top ten of '25, for certain.

2028, Chronicle? Are you sure about that?

Scratch another one off the reissue wish list. It's a little exciting to finally have this album, which includes my fave Nick H. tune*, in this format.

Moving picture viewing on a cold and rainy November Sunday afternoon. I still haven't managed to avoid dozing during a Tarkovsky film but I'm working on it.

Saturday scenery.

Possibly the strangest coincidence of the month: The new collections of short, winsome pop tunes from Tony Molina and Sharp Pins, out today and next Friday, respectively, each have 21 songs.

The postman delivered the new record -- a double -- from Lightning In A Twilight Hour during civil twilight. Eerie. Do you think he sensed the contents of the cardboard mailer, intentionally waiting until the appropriate time to drop it on the front porch?

New Bob Stanley compilation alert! I think this one might rival Tea & Symphony for his best curatorial effort. Take a look at that track list and you'll probably agree.

Any record whose liner notes thank Andrew Sandoval, Harvey Williams, and Andy Zax is bound to be exceptionally good.

The Unutterable contains more than a few top-notch Fall tunes. If I were to rank my 25 most favorite studio LPs of the 31 that MES and the rest gave us, it would place just outside the top 10 (right now, at least).

1. Grotesque (After The Gramme)
2. Hex Enduction Hour
3. This Nation’s Saving Grace

This is the 5th consecutive LP from the beloved Bats, dating back to 2008's The Guilty Office, to be released in fall or winter. That seems fitting as I listen to side one whilst looking out at the soon-to-be-denuded trees. Yes, it's an unseasonable 75 degrees out there; it's cooler in the house.

My favorite Immersion songs are those whose sound can be traced straight back to "40 Versions" and probably a few other things on 154. The strongest example on this new album is "Use It Don't Lose It."
