Bummer! What a perverse unintended consequence of the technology. They'd have been better off just getting regular hybrids.

Oh for fleet vehicles I was thinking more in the context of corporate cars, delivery vans, that sort of thing. Wasn't thinking of rental vehicles at all. Yeah of course they wouldn't give a shit.

That is even crazier! You would think fuel costs would be something they'd be all over. The mind boggles.

This is so crazy to me. My boomer parents who up until a couple years ago were mildly EV skeptical, now have a PHEV and they are extremely pleased with how little they have spent on gasoline since they got it.

This wouldn't have looked out of place coming out of that vertical Alliance bad guy ship, I don't think.

Not that I've started doing 3D printing yet, but it's this sort of calculus that has helped me restrain from spending too much money on Eaglemoss ships. Also then I could print them to scale and include fan designs I like.

This is IMO the great missed opportunity of kitbashes during the TNG/DS9 run. We saw numerous Miranda class variants, but no Oberth variants. Just one variation like you've shown here would have settled years of debate.

According to the video they handle freeze-thaw cycles better because the spaces between bricks allow for expansion/contraction. Makes sense to me, but an example from a similar climate would be the proof. A chunk of Dundas in London ON is brick paved, so we'll see how it holds up.

They're used pretty extensively in Amsterdam, and there are a lot of advantages to them, but your suspicion about heavy traffic is correct - they use asphalt for those roads. Here's an interesting video about it:

I also like this TNG era refit by Laércio Roda aka Medjai.

But also at least a little bit solar, as pointed out in the video, the Sun's gravitational pull also effects the tides.

This seems like a much more compact alternative to offshore wind. I guess we'll see how it goes, but I can see something like this getting along the learning curve.

This thing rocks.

We live in the stupidest timeline, that is for sure.

Very frustrating that so much of our modern political discourse boils down to this Huffpost peice from 2017:

My make-up related hot take is that they really phoned it in with Phlox. The only alien character on the show other than a Vulcan and the make-up is basically a toned down Cardassian.

Love it!
