If anyone genuinely believed this ridiculous "the brain isn't fully formed until 25; you shouldn't make irreversible life-changing choices til then" grift, they'd be insisting that people shouldn't be able to join the army, get married, have kids, etc until then either.

But look: they don't.

Addressing your grievances against the government by suing it as a class or individual is just being priced out of having rights, which is frankly the most American version of fascism I can imagine.

The idea of education as effectively a preparation for industry, as providing us with the minimum required skills needed to be good, obedient workers, seems to have won.

Naturally, because the existence of a citizenry that can question, iterate, and investigate is antithetical to power.

The Trump Playbook:

Take credit for the strong economy he inherited.
Crash that economy with needless tariffs.
Blame others for the mess he made.
Repeat.

Markets are experiencing Stockholm Syndrome right now but at some point the real world will have to reckon with the fact that 10% universal tariffs plus 125% tariffs on China (and maybe the EU?) and sector tariffs on steel, aluminum, lumber, and pharmaceuticals are still a huge problem

US politics right now is like that episode of Oprah where she gave away all the cars, but instead she kept giving cars and taking cars away and setting cars on fire and making people beg for cars and also didn't understand what cars actually were

I wrote about this a bit in my last book but it really shakes me that a defining feature of this catastrophic era is that we just keep going to work. We work through pandemics, we work through natural disasters, we work through economic calamity, we work through coups, we work, we work, we work.

I've been saying for some time that nobody should assume that the 2026 US midterm elections or 2028 presidential election will be free and fair. This case from North Carolina proves the point – Republican judges changing the rules of an election 150 days *after* it was held.
🚨 BREAKING NEWS: the Republican-majority on the N.C. Court of Appeals rules to overturn the decision of the Wake County Superior Court (and the voters in the state) in a 2-1 decision to disenfranchise more than 65,000 voters from LAST year’s election. ⬇️

I truly love the idea that America is the land where you can be anyone and do anything regardless of the circumstances of your birth. That was never actually true, but it was something to aspire to. What are we without that? Oligarchy with no healthcare I guess. Not much pride there.

Look I'm no fan of any corp that collects user data. As they say, if the product is free, you're the product. So I have no great love of TikTok.

But the only difference between TikTok and, say, Meta, is *who* is collecting that data. And that makes a TikTok ban nothing more than xenophobia.
