Tarantino's a jerk and I disagree with most of his opinions but Hunger Games is waaaaay closer to Battle Royale than Battle Royale is to Ender's Game.

As far as film adaptations of literature go, I can't think of a more textbook example of taking something that was originally brainy but still very accessible and turning it into something typically Hollywood. And of *course* they made Susan Calvin young and hot. That bothered me even in 2004.

Howard Hughes hated the movie's anti-war message and tried to have it completely changed, and when that failed, he severely limited the film's release to just a few theaters!

Since the movie's from the '40s I half expected it to be in black and white, which would have saved them money not only on color film, but on hair dye.
