On Bush’s initial point, what the hell kind of incentive for intellectual politics is there, when time and again it has been proved that the most idiotic, insulting and crass politics are rewarded and trying to be thoughtful gets you crushed

A large part of the problem as it strikes me is people who like to see themselves as on the left, progressive side of politics feeling the need to hammer home the ‘better things aren’t possible’ line because if they supported genuine transformation now, it would make a mockery of their entire career

I’m sharing a Palestinian account every day and today is Osama. Osama was studying software development and programming before the war. His university and home were destroyed. He is trying to help his family survive and leave Gaza including his younger brothers Hamza, 20 and Abib, 15.

She of course routinely accused the defendants of violent and threatening behaviour, with virtually no evidence. (On a couple of occasions, under the direst provocation, one or two people swore at her)

If anything, it’s the other way round - the claimant in the Abbotsley case repeatedly drove her car at the defendants, and in one case physically pushed someone with it. She was convicted of assault for that, but it didn’t stop her
