Without SNAP, Texas stands to lose $614 million every month, and 3.5 million low-income Texans will go without assistance.

I joined my Senate Democratic colleagues in urging Gov. Abbott to use state resources to bridge the SNAP gap caused by the shutdown.

One in five adults faces mental illness each year — but care is still out of reach for far too many.

That’s why I worked with my Dallas delegation to bring home $100 million for the new Dallas State Hospital, the first full state psychiatric hospital in our region. #TXLege #SD16

A win for the separation of church and state.

While the federal court’s preliminary injunction order currently applies to the districts named in the lawsuits, it upholds the principle of religious freedom guaranteed by both the U.S. and Texas Constitutions.
Judge blocks Texas law, orders schools to remove Ten Commandments displays
The lawsuit claims the Texas law requiring the Ten Commandments to be displayed in public schools violates religious freedom and the separation of church and state.

The issue isn’t that politicians have partisan interests — that’s always been true.

What’s offensive is mid-cycle map redraws, without a census, just so republicans can shield themselves from voter backlash over broken promises and failed leadership.

Like I said during the redistricting debate: gerrymandering isn’t new, but here’s what is new: a president personally calling a governor to demand five seats, and a GOP that capitulates — drawing unconstitutional maps.

Today, a federal court rejected their illegal attempt to sidestep Texas voters.
In blow to Trump, federal judges block new Texas congressional map
The decision is a massive blow in the White House’s push to redistrict across the country.
