Matthew Lillard has one of the standout moments of the year in THE LIFE OF CHUCK. He's always been awesome and keeps being awesome.

Rewatched MOONSTRUCK. What a screenplay! What a family! Truly an all-timer. Somehow gets better every time I see it.

"Surely it doesn't need to be said that Paul Dano is one of our greatest actors. Anyone who doesn't get that doesn't know what acting is. He's also a brilliant director and writer, a very snappy dresser, and a gigantic mensch." --Tony Kushner

About to watch Kathryn Bigelow's A HOUSE OF DYNAMITE. I'm honestly a bit confused why this movie was made in the first place considering Sidney Lumet already made a literally perfect movie about an accidental nuclear launch ending the world in 1964 with FAIL SAFE.

people, you have the chance to put my book ahead of Olivia Nuzzi’s on the bestseller list. put aside all other considerations and think how objectively funny this would be. #1, that Mountain Goats guy. #2, Antivax Man Has My Heart. funniest list of the century. We can do this if we try

Rest in Peace, Tammie!
Tammie Rose has passed. She was the head of communications at Tribeca & Sundance she was a lovely person. The fact I got to work with her at times kept me from giving up doing Unseen because I she was nice in dark world.
She will be missed.

Watching BUGONIA. I like how this entire film's color palette and color grading seem to focus primarily on giving Jesse Plemons' facial hair that right, perfect color of autumn wheat yellow.

Rewatching ONCE UPON A TIME IN CHINA. I think my favorite micro subplots in this very serious, very patriotic wuxia film is when it becomes very important—very important, indeed—that Jet Li's disciples band together to put on a Chinese opera performance like they're Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney.

I'm not going to pretend these are bad films (I don't even mind the Woody film) but this doesn't exactly scream "voracious cinephile with a near-encyclopedic knowledge of genre and world cinema" so much as "dad who watches a lot of TNT."
