here's mine
my moon landing conspiracy is that Kubrick did shoot a fake one, but only as backup in case the mission and/or the broadcast failed, but since it all went off without a hitch it turned out to be unnecessary

me as a video game protagonist, ducking behind waist-high cover and searching through lockers for crafting items while 90% of the internal monologue v/o is just sing-muttering loops from Prince Paul beats

yeah, also a solid reminder that I need to get moving on my personal pledge to get more into shoegaze

I never got around to this band so I think you just did me a favor

That too! Having to invest nothing but time does change the equation both ways: listeners can explore at little/no cost, but the revenue hit makes the industry play it safe

Every Bruce Springsteen movie should have at least one Frankenheimer-caliber chase in souped up ‘70s muscle cars

I do think one catch (re: the "Retromania" critique and the idea things are stagnant now) is that there are significantly more options for subcultural affiliation and aesthetic exploration now outside music than there were when musical subcultures flourished in the late 20c

trade secret: a lot of it really is just trying to find the most personally resonant way to gesture towards a particular phrase or riff or flourish and proclaim "dang"

(you are still a valuable source of insight tho, speaking as a fellow Library Music Sicko)

A significant amount of popular culture right now is derived from properties multiple generations of people loved as kids, many of which predate the moon landing; I dunno why music has to be a big exception

People don't go "Lord of the Rings? Eh, that's my parents' books"

I always got the impression the UK music press (and fanbase?) were a lot more churn-based though. "This genre's been around for more than five years and most of its proponents are in their mid-late twenties now? Toss it in the bin"

I like the Dan plenty but this is like saying "Werner Herzog, from The Mandalorian"

being one of about 450 political posters here with obnoxious musical takes

the wild thing is that as good as that one is it might be only their second-best pairing next to this

(apparently it was used in some video game's soundtrack recently so it's probably gotten a bit of a boost)

we might’ve gotten there earlier if it wasn’t for the anti-disco backlash

Some day I want to tell one of these guys that Lebowski’s funny but it’s no ‘Raising Arizona’ and see what happens
