Eisner-winning Peanuts nerd. Writer, publisher (About Comics), founder of 24 Hour Comics Day, sperm donor (retired). "Is he the guy who did that thing?" Yeah, prob'ly.
There is some sense that the syndicated may not have really been working on this as a back-up plan so much as a negotiating tactic, a way of stating that there is a price too high, we are willing to go on without you.

Doing some further search, I find Harry's life took many dark turns. Newspapers reported that four of his female lovers committed suicide, three of them for learning his secret (although he denied this); that his father stabbed him (then claimed self-defence); died from syphilis at age 40.

While I'm at it... Harry Livingston, 1900. Apparently, being a trans man lends to lawlessness. "[His] latest escapade occurred last Saturday evening, when [he] was arrested for scorching and for riding [his] bike without touching the handlebars."

I went to see if Google image search had gotten good enough to locate this among, say, the covers stored at CBDB.

If it’s a hit, they will probably adapt the sequel, W For Wreak Vengeance, as well as the rest of the Sue Grafton oeuvre.
