In any other country, if federal agents fired upon journalists when unprovoked — what would we call it?

If federal agents marched down streets demanding papers — what would we say?

Authoritarianism — let’s not pretend it’s something else when it happens in our American cities.

Finally they are starting to get it. Better late than never
this is an object lesson in why praising Dems when they do the right thing - and not just castigating them for doing the wrong thing - is good politics for those of us who want them to fight

Van Hollen raised his profile by doing the right thing and the lesson he learned was keep fighting
“Mr. Van Hollen saw a different lesson [from his role in the Abrego Garcia case]. ‘This finger in the wind stuff has got to end. We also need to stop deluding ourselves that the problem is all about messaging, or about volume, or style. We don’t just need to fight. We need to fight for something.’”

it will only be fitting for his death to be immediately glossed over and forgotten like the countless children gunned down by weapons he supported and ignored by the empty “thoughts and prayers” culture he helped create. may his death be as politically fruitless as the rest. rest in nothing, bitch.

I think Charlie Kirk deserves about as much respect right now as he himself has extended towards the average transgender American. 💅

Aside from being morally bankrupt, saying you'd sacrifice one minority for your own political gain just tells your supposed allies that you can't be trusted and tells your political opponents that you're open to sacrificing more of them.

If you are a Gavin Newsom stan, to me you are as bad (possibly worse) than MAGA.

We don't need a pretty face to make the hate more palatable. We don't need an articulate voice to make the hate more palatable.

Gavin is the same as Trump and if you do not agree with this, question yourself why.

If you're wondering why people are going in hard against Newsom, it's to give you the most notice possible. They are telling you in 2025 that a Newsom run in 2028 will fail. This is information. If your response to this information is to wail about purity tests, you are not prepared for the moment

reposted this today because the inverse is also true:

if you abandon trans people right now, you are abandoning civil rights period.

if you can't stand up for trans people when it matters, no one should, or will, ever trust you when the bullseye moves to the next target.
the thing about trans rights is that we fight the civil rights issues of our time. nazi chuds have made this the issue of our time.

it's not more *important* than other civil rights issues, but it is the battleground of the moment, and we have to meet the moment to support everyone's rights.
Centrists bigots and right wingers have this all backward. YOU are the ones constantly bringing up trans issues. I would be happy to not think about this shit every day of my life unless I was talking to or reading something by one of my trans friends and thought of it in passing. SHUT THE FUCK UP

Controversial opinion that shouldn't be: Landlords should not exist.
A landlord turned off Tenant Client's family's heat upon learning Client was an immigrant.

Landlord hired three different law firms to argue this was legal, then fired each one after they couldn't get our case dismissed.

This week, landlord settled for enough that Client will buy a house.
Tell me something that brought you joy this week.

Any old thing will do. Small joys are as good as big ones—sometimes even better.

I need Democratic online types to understand that because of this, Newsom is dead to me. Dead. I'd sooner vote for an actual corpse. There is no hope, none, that he'll win me over, *because he has established he is a bad person*. There's no coming back from this. Take my advice and move the fuck on.
1. This morning, California Governor said he was in "complete alignment" with anti-LGBTQ+ hate-influencer Charlie Kirk of TPUSA on transgender sports.

He also conceded on trans inmates and gender affirming care for youth.

It's so much worse than being reported.

Every rich person is going to tell *you* how great AI teaching is while sending *their* kids to the kind of schooling the Ancient Greeks would recognize. I just wish everyone would think about why that is.
I think we’re on the cusp of mass attempts to automate teaching, and I also think it is going to be a massive wasteful failure in ways that will make the “learning loss” of the pandemic look like a speed bump next to a mountain.

This is because of the Online Safety Act, and UK folks had better get used to doing this because every site on the internet that "is likely to be accessed by children" and has users in the UK will be doing this as of 25 July; that's Ofcom's deadline.
Starting July 25, Bluesky will require users in the UK to scan their face, upload an ID or verify their identity with a bankcard.

I realize that platforms feel they have no choice but to comply with the government surveillance schemes, but shocking nonetheless.
Bluesky is rolling out age verification in the UK
Bluesky users in the UK can verify their age using their face, ID, or payment card.

I wish educators could see this:

All of this A.I. in education is about stealing ideas from you and your students, while getting enough data to tell your employer you can be paid less or replaced with a a chatbot.

If it was so amazing you wouldn’t be getting it for free, or begged to use it.
If "AI" was as valuable as they say it is, they wouldn't be selling it to you. They'd be using it themselves in secret to make the next Minecraft, the next Avatar, the next Hello Kitty and then they'd sell that to you.

They're trying to sell you a sick goose, while pretending it lays golden eggs.
