Heterogeneity is expected.
Platform trials (like RECOVER-TLC) and symptom-based thresholds can help identify subgroups without excluding patients too soon.

Some have criticized the definition for being too broad.
However, early research benefits from sensitivity over specificity. It helps us explore the full spectrum of post-COVID illness before narrowing it down by biomarkers or subtypes.

The 2024 @theNASEM definition of Long COVID offers a consensus-based, inclusive starting point:

“An infection-associated chronic condition occurring ≥3 months after SARS-CoV-2 infection, continuous/relapsing/progressive, affecting ≥1 organ system.”
