Scientist at ICAR-NIASM working on aquatic ecosystems. Using environmental DNA (#eDNA) to improve fisheries management, monitor biodiversity, and support sustainable aquatic resources 🐟 @azti.bsky.social
Happy to share our new publication exploring how eDNA fits into estuarine ecological indices. Our results show why it’s not a simple swap—and what needs to change.

Just joined back at ICAR-National Institute of Abiotic Stress Management.
Went straight to the my lab — no warm-up, no holiday mood.
Cabin and lab looked like it had taken a long nap… without cleaning up first.
Dust, mess, old memories — all waiting.
Time to wake it up and get things moving again!

🎓 A little late in posting, but a big moment in my journey.
Completing my PhD at AZTI has been an incredible journey of discovery and growth. From exploring the depths of environmental DNA to understanding aquatic ecosystems, every step has been enlightening.

Witnessing the Olive Ridley turtles nesting virtually brings back incredible memories of seeing it in person 9 years ago when I was at ICAR-CIFA, Odisha.

By combining historical datasets with a broad eDNA survey, we improved understanding of these migratory fishes' distribution. This international effort highlights the need for well-designed sampling & species-specific assays for effective long-term monitoring.

I am happy to share a new preprint from the team on using #eDNA for monitoring diadromous species, led by @mukeshbhendarkar.bsky.social from @azti.bsky.social and with the collaboration of several institutions and administrations: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
Lessons learned from applying eDNA surveying to diadromous fish detection across the north-east Atlantic region
Regular monitoring of diadromous fishes is critical to inform their management and conservation. Yet, the in-situ data collection these species is challenging due to their complex life cycle and low a...
