Nah I don’t take it that way, so you certainly shouldn’t.

We were only supposed to have 7 issues and look how far we came!

Ive been on books that ended before; you just move onto the next.

I’ve got some insane stuff coming down soon and I’m hyped to share when I can.

Thank you for the support.

Almost forgot: Inari's kitsune! Inari's skulk consists of Yako (one-tail), Zenko (two-tail), & Tenko (three-tail). This is based on the mythological concept that the more tails a fox had, the older/wiser/stronger it was. This idea is loosely reflected in Inari's foxes.

Since Monika is blasian (Japanese father, black mother). For those who don't know, when you design black characters, it's very easy for things like skin tone & hair texture to get lost in translations. That's why Taurin adding these specifics into Inari's character sheet is so necessary.

The great thing about Taurin is his first drafts are so good you really only have to mix 'n match your favorite things! I ended up going with option 3 w/ the note of shrinking her hip slits as we didn't want to inadvertently sexualize her. After that it was mostly finding the fight mask look.

Design-wise, I sent so many images to Taurin & my editor TOm over the course of '24 that it'd be impossible post them all here, but the main influences were Yuffie, Ibuki and Kimberley from Street Fighter. These influences are reflected in Inari's first designs

Her creation came about summer '24 after I got Covid & finally had time to play FF7 Rebirth. She is heavily inspired by Yuffie, one of my all-time favorite characters . I had been wanting to do more detective stories w/ Miles, and a young, fun, ninja thief seemed like the perfect fit for our series.

I co-created Inari with the immensely talented @muaadib.bsky.social (we also co-created the Ellie Deadpool design!). Inari is a Japanese-American, super-theif, with the mutant power to manipulate the electromagnetic spectrum, which she uses to create hardlight foxes.

I haven’t been to that theater since it became the nighthawk! I gotta get over there.

Great shot by the way!

It feels like the first time I read anything EU for the first time as a kid… fresh, exciting and full of mystery. Great stuff.

The lack of media literacy (amongst all the other more horrible things) with these people is strong. Thank you for this lol.

Thank you for the very kind words AND insights. I think with GA we have a great team, thanks to our editor …and he’s always given me space to do what feels right with our book. it’s very collaborative and that helps elevate the final product. I’m glad it’s resonating with folks.
